So many of us might think of the "first look" on a wedding day to be something that happens between the bride and groom. The first look can be such a special moment and one of the best memories from your wedding day. Of course, it would be!! The groom seeing his bride for the first time is always such an important snapshot to capture. The first look between the groom and bride can be such a romantic and is such a long-honored tradition.
BUT!!! Hear me out! "First look" does not have to be saved for only the bride and groom. And in fact, a "first look" between the father and bride can be an even more cherished moment for your big day. Crystal and Derek did it different. Yes, the groom's face, seeing the bride for the first time on the big day, was AMAZING! And I got to capture that in its truest and most raw form, too! But, before the ceremony, Crystal decided she wanted to have her "first look" shot with her father. I truly believe this moment was one of the most precious moments I have ever shot! Ever!
What is a father-daughter "first look"?
A father-daughter "first look" is usually a moment that is planned ahead of time. It happens before the ceremony but after the bride has gotten ready. This is usually a time that is isolated and private with only a few of the bride's chosen to take part in. This takes part away from the groom. This is a time you would plan with your photographer, as they can help facilitate and pose you as this moment takes place. This ends up ending as a very special memory- your father see's you in your dress, for the first time, and you both cherish each other in the moment before he gives your hand to your groom.
How do you do a father-daughter "first look"?
Truth is, it's your wedding and you are in charge. This can look however you'd like it to. And let's be honest-the internet is your best friend. But your photographer can help you, too!
Generally, you will have a designated space set up prior to the first look, that is private and away from all other guests. You and your photographer would plan a time in this place to have your father arrive at. As your father is waiting for the bride to show, your photographer should be capturing moments from many angles. As the bride makes her approach, your photographer should be capturing these moments, up until he turns and sees his beautiful daughter for the first time on her wedding day. This moment is truly one-of-a-kind. And one of my favorite parts of last year's wedding season.
